Artist Bio & Statement
Artist BIo
My name is Jazzy Elise, I am a local established architectural artist. Born, raised and now thriving in Atlanta, GA, USA. I have traveled around the world, studied architecture and practiced as an engineer. I am a life enthusiast and family centric, all of this experience often shows in my artwork. I own a company called Jazzymade ™ creating functional fine art for collectors in the form of journals, clocks and prints. My work has been featured in galleries and museums and my collectors live all over the world! I really enjoy uplifting and inspiring people through my art; it is my purpose in life. "Be where you are, any place can be your creative space. Just be inspired by everything around you. I am."
I began my interest in art as early as 7, oftentimes enjoying creating more than watching TV with my siblings. I remember as a girl being excited to create art for my loved ones. It would be personal with a poem, an illustration, and framed. I valued giving my artwork more than buying something from the store. It felt like giving them a piece of my soul, something they could cherish forever. I got so much joy from making them smile. I was always drawing and sketching and in 9th grade I was introduced to painting as a technique, it was not my favorite form of creating at the time. In 2013 I graduated with a Bachelors of Architecture and between graduating and finding work I picked up the brush. I practiced as an engineer for 7 years while painting as a hobby and developing my skills. In 2017, I established Jazzymade™ as a company and platform to sell my artwork. I knew painting was my passion and I wanted to do it all of the time. Walking into my studio each day is like living inside my dreams as a little girl; she is happy with who I have become.
Artist Statement
As a self taught artist I only use my childlike inspiration from grade school and my Bachelors of Architecture training to produce my creations. I paint with intention by visualizing an idea for many months; sometimes years before its creation. This is my conceptual approach to creating art; however, once the idea is solidified in my mind I can create it within hours or days. I can often see a complete feeling, an array of colors and the full composition prior to beginning the work. Planning is a major part of my process, including photography, sketches, color pallets, material sorting and whatever else needed to make the artwork tangible. I typically use 9 colors to create a piece. The colors are decided before I begin but the values can shift as I work. My mind goes into overdrive waiting to hold my ideas.
Typically I paint with acrylics and on occasion I use watercolor, charcoal, ink, sewing embellishments and other textiles. I enjoy bringing the energy of my inspiration into my pieces and I challenge the viewer to connect on an emotional level. My ultimate goal is to uplift and inspire.
My color palette is full of bright bold colors and are instinctively assigned based on the mood or emotion I feel, rather than the actual color of my subject. Colors that often repeat in my work are marigold yellow and turquoise. At micro level viewing I love challenging the boundary between two colors and not letting them blend. This juxtaposition creates a vibration that I believe excites the eye and emotions. I play on this edge with color and oftentimes with line work; the line is the clearest boundary in our minds. Viewers and collectors alike have often said they enjoy the simplicity of the subject in my artwork and the detail at which I bring it to life. This is truly my strength. At the macro level viewing you will understand that it is not about the individual pieces but the whole, for when these sections come together they create something familiar and exciting.
